Small but mighty microgreens

Written by Rocky Point | Aug 19, 2022 3:00:00 PM

Microgreens are vegetable greens harvested just after the seedling sprout has developed its first set of true leaves. There is such a wide variety of edibles that can be grown as microgreens, and they make a delicious addition to your kitchen garden.

Growing microgreens is quite easy – especially with Rocky Point Seed & Cutting Mix! Simply pick your choice of microgreen you’re going to grow and sow into seed trays or recycled containers like butter and yoghurt tubs filled with Seed & Cutting Mix. Keep them on a warm windowsill, or hothouse where they can sprout. Most microgreens will be ready for harvesting from just a few days to a few weeks.

The most popular varieties are produced using seeds from the following plant families:

  • Asteraceae: Lettuce, endive, chicory and radicchio
  • Apiaceae: Dill, carrot, fennel and celery
  • Amaryllidaceae: Garlic, onion, leek
  • Amaranthaceae: Amaranth, quinoa, swiss chard, beets and spinach
  • Brassicaceae: Cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, watercress, radish and arugula
  • Cucurbitaceae: Melon, cucumber and squash

Why not trying giving microgreens a grow this winter?
