Autumn is here, but that doesn’t mean the flowers are slowing down and there are no more blossoms to enjoy.
Here are our top 5 picks for autumn blooms;
- FIVE: DAHLIA -
These beauties will be blooming until the first frosts arrive. Give them a good cut back at the end of autumn and leave the tubers in the grown, and you’ll have Dahlias regrow in spring.
- FOUR: SASANQUA CAMELLIA -
This variety of camellia really comes into its own in autumn. A variety of beautiful cottage garden colours, the double flowering varieties are really something to admire.
- THREE: ECHINACEA -
These are great for attracting butterflies to the garden, along with bees and other beneficial bugs. They can also be used for making tea and other herbal medicines.
- TWO: ASTERS -
An excellent addition to your garden if you seem to have a lot more spring/summer blooms, and not so much going on in Autumn. These compact varieties grow to around 30cm, and once they’ve finished flowering can be chopped back. They will die back in winter, but reappear in spring.
- ONE: TIBOUCHINA -
If you’re looking for more of a show-stopper variety of larger shrub for your garden, you can’t go passed the tibouchina. With vibrant purples, mauve or white flowers – they are prolifically blooming in autumn.
