Rocky Point was once again proud to sponsor and attend the National Symposium on Recycled Organics on the 20th & 21st June hosted by Griffith University.
The Symposium brings together Australian and International guests from a wide range of fields including Government, University, Business, Farmers and Environment.
Topics discussed included but were not limited to; the future of organic waste management in Queensland, a spatial view of Australia’s biomass resources, returning nutrients to our soils, a tool kit for inactivating pathogens during composting, and more along with Keynote addresses on Queensland’s Biofuture, and an industry perspective on the assessment and management of emerging contaminants. Rocky Point Production Manager Mark Rayner presented on realising the benefits of Organic Compost with an insight into the research Rocky Point is doing in this field.
The second day of the event comprised of a field day, where approximately 50 attendees of the day one symposium came to visit the Rocky Point site along with another facility.
Rocky Point Production Manager Mark Rayner guided the tour bus through the always-busy site, as he explained the process of our A-grade composted bark, which is supplied to a range of nurseries and also supplied in-house for the Rocky Point bagged growing media products, along with showing off our organically certified compost.
Mark explained the complete process of the compost from the raw green waste through to the finished product, and fortunately, for everyone on board they had the opportunity to see the process in action with the windrow-turner working throughout the morning.
The tour then made its way to a trial block of sugar cane, where Rocky Point General Manager Matt Keith had the opportunity to showcase the grow trials of putting our own compost in to the soil and the benefits it provides. This concluded the site visit of Rocky Point.
